Scope of These Guidelines<\/h2><p data-start=\"911\" data-end=\"1020\">These Community Guidelines apply to community interactions associated with CLNN, including, where applicable:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1022\" data-end=\"1482\"><li data-section-id=\"zr7vu4\" data-start=\"1022\" data-end=\"1045\">Comments and replies;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"mfvgrz\" data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1089\">Discussions on articles and news reports;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"a05grv\" data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1133\">Messages and communications sent to CLNN;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"n1axjl\" data-start=\"1134\" data-end=\"1168\">News tips and story submissions;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"3j05mx\" data-start=\"1169\" data-end=\"1236\">User-generated photographs, videos, documents and other material;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1mn4l6\" data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1279\">Polls, surveys and interactive features;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"f3ksxt\" data-start=\"1280\" data-end=\"1349\">Social media discussions conducted through or associated with CLNN;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1j9wh0o\" data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1385\">Reviews, feedback and complaints;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"nm1v6l\" data-start=\"1386\" data-end=\"1482\">Any other feature through which users communicate with CLNN or other members of the community.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1484\" data-end=\"1660\">Certain platforms, including social-media platforms, may have their own additional rules. Users are responsible for complying with those platform-specific requirements as well.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"q6xggp\" data-start=\"1667\" data-end=\"1695\">2. Our Community Standard<\/h2><p data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1809\">We encourage users to participate in public discussion with <strong data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"1808\">respect, honesty, responsibility and good faith<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"1811\" data-end=\"2024\">People may strongly disagree about politics, law, government, religion, social issues, public policy, criminal cases, court decisions and other matters of public interest. Disagreement by itself is not prohibited.<\/p><p data-start=\"2026\" data-end=\"2162\">However, disagreement should not become personal abuse, harassment, threats, hate speech, deliberate misinformation or unlawful conduct.<\/p><p data-start=\"2164\" data-end=\"2186\">A useful principle is:<\/p><p data-start=\"2188\" data-end=\"2292\"><strong data-start=\"2188\" data-end=\"2292\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Challenge ideas, arguments and public conduct \u2014 not people through abuse, threats or dehumanisation.<\/strong><\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"99mfi9\" data-start=\"2299\" data-end=\"2326\">3. Respectful Discussion<\/h2><p data-start=\"2328\" data-end=\"2436\">Users should communicate respectfully, even when discussing controversial or emotionally sensitive subjects.<\/p><p data-start=\"2438\" data-end=\"2455\">We do not permit:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2457\" data-end=\"2834\"><li data-section-id=\"7xejm2\" data-start=\"2457\" data-end=\"2494\">Personal abuse or repeated insults;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"41fv5t\" data-start=\"2495\" data-end=\"2524\">Harassment or intimidation;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"266f1i\" data-start=\"2525\" data-end=\"2547\">Threats of violence;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"ppswpd\" data-start=\"2548\" data-end=\"2583\">Bullying or targeted humiliation;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"up1l8j\" data-start=\"2584\" data-end=\"2640\">Deliberate provocation intended to disrupt discussion;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"151t1f7\" data-start=\"2641\" data-end=\"2669\">Repeated unwanted contact;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1bi62cy\" data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2710\">Sexually abusive or degrading remarks;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"8b67j4\" data-start=\"2711\" data-end=\"2764\">Dehumanising descriptions of individuals or groups;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"l3ee03\" data-start=\"2765\" data-end=\"2834\">Persistent personal attacks unrelated to the subject of discussion.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2836\" data-end=\"3005\">Strong criticism, disagreement and criticism of public figures or institutions may be acceptable when expressed responsibly and connected to the subject being discussed.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"oih0s5\" data-start=\"3012\" data-end=\"3048\">4. Hate Speech and Discrimination<\/h2><p data-start=\"3050\" data-end=\"3217\">CLNN does not permit content that promotes hatred, hostility or discrimination against individuals or groups based on protected or otherwise sensitive characteristics.<\/p><p data-start=\"3219\" data-end=\"3246\">This includes content that:<\/p><ul data-start=\"3248\" data-end=\"3561\"><li data-section-id=\"a4fyvf\" data-start=\"3248\" data-end=\"3303\">Advocates violence or discrimination against a group;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"utpcqn\" data-start=\"3304\" data-end=\"3353\">Uses dehumanising slurs or abusive stereotypes;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1dh4o3v\" data-start=\"3354\" data-end=\"3396\">Encourages hostility toward a community;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"chzxlt\" data-start=\"3397\" data-end=\"3450\">Celebrates persecution or violence against a group;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1m6v90o\" data-start=\"3451\" data-end=\"3499\">Calls for exclusion or harm based on identity;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"9tt42l\" data-start=\"3500\" data-end=\"3561\">Attempts to incite communal, ethnic or religious hostility.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3563\" data-end=\"3777\">Discussion of controversial social, political, religious or cultural issues is not prohibited merely because it is controversial. Context, purpose and manner of expression may be considered when evaluating content.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"gf5q1o\" data-start=\"3784\" data-end=\"3824\">5. Threats and Incitement to Violence<\/h2><p data-start=\"3826\" data-end=\"3864\">Threats of violence are not permitted.<\/p><p data-start=\"3866\" data-end=\"3881\">Users must not:<\/p><ul data-start=\"3883\" data-end=\"4153\"><li data-section-id=\"13p76en\" data-start=\"3883\" data-end=\"3924\">Threaten an individual or organisation;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1f3qmhh\" data-start=\"3925\" data-end=\"3971\">Encourage another person to commit violence;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1e90gyk\" data-start=\"3972\" data-end=\"4021\">Encourage attacks against a community or group;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"xwta0z\" data-start=\"4022\" data-end=\"4081\">Provide content intended to facilitate imminent violence;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1vocgb9\" data-start=\"4082\" data-end=\"4153\">Celebrate or encourage acts of violence against identifiable persons.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"4155\" data-end=\"4251\">Where appropriate, serious threats or unlawful activity may be reported to relevant authorities.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"1c2lezz\" data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4321\">6. Misinformation, False Information and Manipulated Content<\/h2><p data-start=\"4323\" data-end=\"4377\">CLNN values factual and responsible public discussion.<\/p><p data-start=\"4379\" data-end=\"4514\">Users should not knowingly publish or distribute false information presented as fact, particularly where it may cause significant harm.<\/p><p data-start=\"4516\" data-end=\"4530\">This includes:<\/p><ul data-start=\"4532\" data-end=\"4934\"><li data-section-id=\"ftjhqg\" data-start=\"4532\" data-end=\"4558\">Fabricated news reports;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"qa2crw\" data-start=\"4559\" data-end=\"4603\">Fake court orders or government documents;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"j8qmaq\" data-start=\"4604\" data-end=\"4665\">False claims about arrests, deaths or criminal accusations;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1wq6ml4\" data-start=\"4666\" data-end=\"4738\">Deliberately manipulated photographs or videos presented as authentic;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1dlvljd\" data-start=\"4739\" data-end=\"4805\">Impersonation of journalists, public officials or organisations;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1h2itsb\" data-start=\"4806\" data-end=\"4836\">False emergency information;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"42r823\" data-start=\"4837\" data-end=\"4861\">Fabricated quotations;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1bvj5pi\" data-start=\"4862\" data-end=\"4934\">Deliberately misleading claims designed to cause public panic or harm.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"4936\" data-end=\"5042\">Users are encouraged to distinguish between <strong data-start=\"4980\" data-end=\"5041\">fact, allegation, opinion, interpretation and speculation<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"5044\" data-end=\"5182\">A genuine mistake is different from deliberate deception. However, users should correct significant errors when they become aware of them.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"9yx74c\" data-start=\"5189\" data-end=\"5226\">7. Allegations Against Individuals<\/h2><p data-start=\"5228\" data-end=\"5341\">Particular care should be exercised when discussing allegations of criminal, professional or personal misconduct.<\/p><p data-start=\"5343\" data-end=\"5420\">Users should not present an allegation as an established fact merely because:<\/p><ul data-start=\"5422\" data-end=\"5600\"><li data-section-id=\"1ik5yy1\" data-start=\"5422\" data-end=\"5451\">A complaint has been filed;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"13202xr\" data-start=\"5452\" data-end=\"5481\">An FIR has been registered;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"169fud3\" data-start=\"5482\" data-end=\"5510\">Someone has been arrested;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"4a46wn\" data-start=\"5511\" data-end=\"5539\">A person has been accused;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"15cc2oz\" data-start=\"5540\" data-end=\"5566\">Proceedings are pending;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"s0w1mw\" data-start=\"5567\" data-end=\"5600\">A matter is being investigated.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"5602\" data-end=\"5710\">The existence of an allegation, investigation or criminal proceeding does not automatically establish guilt.<\/p><p data-start=\"5712\" data-end=\"5820\">Users should avoid publishing unverified accusations that could unfairly damage another person&#8217;s reputation.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"1mnanv0\" data-start=\"5827\" data-end=\"5856\">8. Court and Legal Matters<\/h2><p data-start=\"5858\" data-end=\"5983\">CLNN regularly publishes information relating to courts, legal proceedings, orders, judgments and public-interest litigation.<\/p><p data-start=\"5985\" data-end=\"6056\">Community discussions concerning legal matters must remain responsible.<\/p><p data-start=\"6058\" data-end=\"6075\">Users should not:<\/p><ul data-start=\"6077\" data-end=\"6513\"><li data-section-id=\"1jx6exn\" data-start=\"6077\" data-end=\"6118\">Misrepresent a court order or judgment;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"xb5h29\" data-start=\"6119\" data-end=\"6147\">Fabricate legal documents;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"nxnh2n\" data-start=\"6148\" data-end=\"6218\">Falsely claim to represent a court, advocate, litigant or authority;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1f462r1\" data-start=\"6219\" data-end=\"6288\">Declare a person guilty solely because an accusation has been made;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"15mf3th\" data-start=\"6289\" data-end=\"6360\">Publish deliberately misleading descriptions of judicial proceedings;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"pebbj5\" data-start=\"6361\" data-end=\"6436\">Attempt to intimidate witnesses, litigants, lawyers or judicial officers;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1a0ryq8\" data-start=\"6437\" data-end=\"6513\">Use CLNN&#8217;s community features to interfere with ongoing legal proceedings.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"6515\" data-end=\"6619\">Users should remember that legal proceedings may involve allegations that remain disputed or unresolved.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"c7q20b\" data-start=\"6626\" data-end=\"6664\">9. Privacy and Personal Information<\/h2><p data-start=\"6666\" data-end=\"6761\">Respect for privacy is an important part of responsible journalism and community participation.<\/p><p data-start=\"6763\" data-end=\"6892\">Users should not publish another person&#8217;s private or sensitive information without a legitimate reason and appropriate authority.<\/p><p data-start=\"6894\" data-end=\"6911\">This may include:<\/p><ul data-start=\"6913\" data-end=\"7260\"><li data-section-id=\"x6ork1\" data-start=\"6913\" data-end=\"6937\">Residential addresses;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"i39msf\" data-start=\"6938\" data-end=\"6967\">Personal telephone numbers;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"7cdlpu\" data-start=\"6968\" data-end=\"6994\">Private email addresses;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1b4soye\" data-start=\"6995\" data-end=\"7019\">Financial information;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1kp6t21\" data-start=\"7020\" data-end=\"7053\">Passwords or login credentials;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1e98teh\" data-start=\"7054\" data-end=\"7075\">Identity documents;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"p1qt18\" data-start=\"7076\" data-end=\"7101\">Private correspondence;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"9xteic\" data-start=\"7102\" data-end=\"7124\">Medical information;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1ndepse\" data-start=\"7125\" data-end=\"7161\">Private photographs or recordings;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1gpjext\" data-start=\"7162\" data-end=\"7202\">Precise personal location information;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1wpyhrf\" data-start=\"7203\" data-end=\"7260\">Information relating to children or vulnerable persons.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"7262\" data-end=\"7416\">Publishing information that could expose someone to harassment, identity theft, fraud, stalking or physical danger may result in removal and other action.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"gtpu3s\" data-start=\"7423\" data-end=\"7461\">10. Children and Vulnerable Persons<\/h2><p data-start=\"7463\" data-end=\"7576\">Users should exercise particular caution when discussing children, victims, survivors and vulnerable individuals.<\/p><p data-start=\"7578\" data-end=\"7722\">Content that exposes a child or vulnerable person to unnecessary identification, humiliation, exploitation, harassment or danger may be removed.<\/p><p data-start=\"7724\" data-end=\"7831\">Users should not use CLNN&#8217;s platforms to solicit inappropriate contact with children or vulnerable persons.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"1rycddd\" data-start=\"7838\" data-end=\"7876\">11. Sexual Content and Exploitation<\/h2><p data-start=\"7878\" data-end=\"8015\">Content involving sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, non-consensual intimate material or the sexual exploitation of minors is prohibited.<\/p><p data-start=\"8017\" data-end=\"8053\">Users must not upload or distribute:<\/p><ul data-start=\"8055\" data-end=\"8234\"><li data-section-id=\"1lv8p38\" data-start=\"8055\" data-end=\"8085\">Child sexual abuse material;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"xprl83\" data-start=\"8086\" data-end=\"8119\">Non-consensual intimate images;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1pvt0zh\" data-start=\"8120\" data-end=\"8150\">Sexual threats or extortion;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"2gzd28\" data-start=\"8151\" data-end=\"8182\">Sexual exploitation material;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"hhuoj0\" data-start=\"8183\" data-end=\"8234\">Content encouraging sexual abuse or exploitation.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"8236\" data-end=\"8354\">Such material may be removed immediately and, where legally required or appropriate, referred to relevant authorities.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"1c4ew4y\" data-start=\"8361\" data-end=\"8394\">12. Spam and Promotional Abuse<\/h2><p data-start=\"8396\" data-end=\"8467\">Community features are intended primarily for meaningful participation.<\/p><p data-start=\"8469\" data-end=\"8486\">Users should not:<\/p><ul data-start=\"8488\" data-end=\"8834\"><li data-section-id=\"1ttavj4\" data-start=\"8488\" data-end=\"8523\">Repeatedly post the same message;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"2sv9dl\" data-start=\"8524\" data-end=\"8570\">Flood discussions with promotional material;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"g3gk6m\" data-start=\"8571\" data-end=\"8622\">Use automated accounts to manipulate discussions;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"yjpz2f\" data-start=\"8623\" data-end=\"8659\">Post misleading commercial offers;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"12xm0b8\" data-start=\"8660\" data-end=\"8710\">Publish referral or affiliate links excessively;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1osmrv7\" data-start=\"8711\" data-end=\"8764\">Manipulate polls, engagement or public discussions;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1ib9w07\" data-start=\"8765\" data-end=\"8834\">Use comments primarily to advertise unrelated products or services.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"8836\" data-end=\"8924\">Legitimate commercial communication may be permitted where expressly authorised by CLNN.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"9in11l\" data-start=\"8931\" data-end=\"8968\">13. Fraud, Scams and Impersonation<\/h2><p data-start=\"8970\" data-end=\"9042\">Users must not use CLNN to facilitate fraud, deception or impersonation.<\/p><p data-start=\"9044\" data-end=\"9072\">Prohibited conduct includes:<\/p><ul data-start=\"9074\" data-end=\"9453\"><li data-section-id=\"ntszu5\" data-start=\"9074\" data-end=\"9123\">Pretending to be a CLNN journalist or employee;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"m3axzh\" data-start=\"9124\" data-end=\"9173\">Pretending to represent a government authority;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"10rktpd\" data-start=\"9174\" data-end=\"9215\">Creating deceptive fundraising appeals;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"117b00f\" data-start=\"9216\" data-end=\"9272\">Publishing fraudulent investment or employment offers;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"129syjo\" data-start=\"9273\" data-end=\"9304\">Phishing or credential theft;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"zilwxk\" data-start=\"9305\" data-end=\"9337\">Fraudulent requests for money;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1ggywi9\" data-start=\"9338\" data-end=\"9387\">Fake legal, court or government communications;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1d5qpiu\" data-start=\"9388\" data-end=\"9453\">Misrepresenting affiliation with an organisation or individual.<\/li><\/ul><h2 data-section-id=\"1o5kzh7\" data-start=\"9460\" data-end=\"9502\">14. Copyright and Intellectual Property<\/h2><p data-start=\"9504\" data-end=\"9573\">Users should only submit material they are legally entitled to share.<\/p><p data-start=\"9575\" data-end=\"9691\">Users must not upload or publish copyrighted material without appropriate permission, licence or other lawful basis.<\/p><p data-start=\"9693\" data-end=\"9707\">This includes:<\/p><ul data-start=\"9709\" data-end=\"9934\"><li data-section-id=\"1i7bei5\" data-start=\"9709\" data-end=\"9751\">Articles copied from other publications;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1ob6y8p\" data-start=\"9752\" data-end=\"9782\">Photographs taken by others;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"14ekgd1\" data-start=\"9783\" data-end=\"9804\">Copyrighted videos;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"khih2u\" data-start=\"9805\" data-end=\"9837\">Books or substantial extracts;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1pl1tv\" data-start=\"9838\" data-end=\"9875\">Paid or subscription-only material;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"a33s4h\" data-start=\"9876\" data-end=\"9909\">Protected graphics and artwork;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1m3qbdz\" data-start=\"9910\" data-end=\"9934\">Proprietary documents.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"9936\" data-end=\"10021\">Where appropriate, users should provide attribution and information about the source.<\/p><p data-start=\"10023\" data-end=\"10170\">CLNN may remove content where there is a credible copyright concern. Our <strong data-start=\"10096\" data-end=\"10116\">Copyright Policy<\/strong> governs copyright-related complaints and enforcement.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"182a1mr\" data-start=\"10177\" data-end=\"10221\">15.
